SSNE Information Technology Committee Volunteer Needs

SSNE's work can only be accomplished with an effective IT infrastructure. The ability to accomplish essential marketing, registration, membership and fundraising tasks at a low cost provides the base structure to support SSNE's mission. The current opportunity to greatly enhance SSNE's services and programs using more effective IT is needed for SSNE to continue and grow. Involvement in SSNE's IT needs provides an opportunity to learn more about its key programs and mission and to help lead it in new directions.

Specific roles to be filled (lead with multiple helpers to cover all tasks)

Committee Goals:

  • Provide effective shared database support for program marketing, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising solicitation.
  • Provide effective collaboration tools for SSNE virtual office
  • Enhance and support SSNE web presence for program marketing, membership recruitment, membership interaction and fundraising solicitation.
  • Explore opportunities to use IT to advance overall SSNE goals, including researching resources for non-profits on the internet.

Tasks and deliverables:

  • Migrate stand-alone FileMaker SSNE database to secure multi-user shared web database by June 2006
  • Maintain secure, backed-up SSNE database
  • Enhance current web mail listserv registration interface to better link to the SSNE database
  • Update and correct SSNE database using information we have to track down new addresses and to verify existing information
  • Explore alternatives and implement cost-effective method for online payment (credit-card, PayPal, etc.) acceptance
  • Develop effective easy to use online donation mechanism
  • Explore alternatives and implement online event registration linked to both online payment and SSNE database
  • Explore Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools including City-Soft for best way to meet SSNEs sponsorship and fundraising efforts
  • Develop collaboration tools and practices for effective Board/committee/member communication
  • Investigate and evaluate mail listserv solutions to continue current announcement service and potentially expand into additional dialog listserv lists.
  • Investigate web-hosting alternatives to reduce monthly costs, better support the mail listserv, shared database, event registration, collaboration and CRM tools.
