Greening
the Roadways Festival, Sunday, April 10, 1 - 5 pm
Amherst Energy
Conservation Task Force, Pioneer Valley Electric Auto Association,
Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, Hitchcock Center, Steve
Lewis Ford, Toyota Northampton, Northampton Honda, and others
America's current
standard of living was built using inexpensive petroleum. As world
production peaks and begins to decline, there will be less petroleum
available and it will be increasingly expensive. It is time to increase
the use of renewable energy and to find ways to get by using less
energy. This is especially important regarding transportation. The
Greening the Roadways Festival will feature a rally of alternative
vehicles, seminars on battery electric vehicles (Emlen Jones), biodiesel
vehicles, biodiesel and grease-powered cars (Paul Lipke, Sustainable
Step New England) and living without a car (Ted White). In addition,
there will be local musicians, youth theatre, vendors of local art,
books, clothing and food. More details to come as we offer an event
for the whole family and all ages. This is how change will happen,
with all of us involved. There is car parking, but please come by
foot, bike, bus, or carpool. There is a UMass Transit Bus that leaves
Cowls Lane (#31) at 12:55 and 2:05 (pull the string at Amherst Farmer's
Supply for the stop closest to The Hitchcock Center). Free and open
to the public.
